Large Antique Blanket Box

A very large blanket box also known as a coffer made from solid oak – Circa 1800 – 1850.

Comes with large hand forged iron lifting handles to both sides and dovetail joints, also has escutcheon to the front and key. It is extremely rare to still have the key due to the age of the chest. Please note even though the key is present the lock no longer works.

Would look fantastic in a period home and offers a huge amount of storage space. Internally it has a candle box and underneath a secret compartment. These were used at the time to hide valuables etc. To access the secret compartment the lid of the candle box has to be open and one side slides upwards revealing another small compartment underneath.

It is really solid and a very heavy antique blanket box.
